ENNEAGRAM

The mysterious figure that is reported, a circle with nine points, called enneagram, from the Greek ennea (nine) and gramma (sign), and is inextricably linked to the one who made it known to the Western world, GI Gurdjieff.

PD Ouspensky, by publishing his text Fragments of an unknown teaching, has allowed us to have the heart of Gurdjieff's teaching available in an intelligible way.

The Enneagram of Personalities is the map, while everyday life is the territory.

Nine points are marked, each of which represents an enneatype ... and, as better specified below, groups together a series of mechanical behaviours.

It allows you to "intertwine knowledge with experience".

No one can tell us what is true and what is not about ourselves.

Only we can do it, strengthened by our sincere self-observation skills.

Recognizing your enneatype can be quite a long journey.

Generally it is easier to make discoveries within a group or by sharing information with people dear to us, looking for a sincere discussion.

What we think of ourselves is often very different from who we really are!

What we avoid is the tip of the iceberg of our personality, a sort of characteristic node around which most of our choices revolve.

However, it is not always easy to notice what we avoid.

It is important to convince ourselves that whoever is in front of us is a mirror that reflects the reality of our being, and  it is up to us to be able to distinguish a teaching from a warning.

Why the Enneagram of Personalities?

The heart of this study lies in allowing you to have a basis to be able to venture into self-discovery with a certain autonomy.

It is about inserting a new interpretation of one's daily life through a different and renewed understanding of one's behaviors and motivations.

It may seem strange, but the Enneagram of Personalities has little to do with psychology.

What is being talked about is mechanics.

Our lives are subject to a series of cause and effect mechanisms that we are unaware of most of the time.

Anyone who observes this process cannot help but want to get rid of it: this is why it is necessary to recognize oneself.

It is through impartial and honest observation that most changes can occur almost spontaneously.

Therefore the two objectives are:

• recognize one's own typology … one's enneatype;

• work on yourself towards growth.

By "enneatype" we mean that particular behavioral typology, with its related underlying reasons.

This system recognizes nine main ones with many other facets.

The geometric structure of the enneagram can be divided into three main components:

• A circumference,

• An internal triangle,

• A particular hexagon (“hexad”).

The nine points are marked on the circumference through 2 laws:

  • The law of three concerns creation, and connects points 3 - 6 - 9 - 3;

  • The law of seven concerns how creation organizes itself, and connects the dots 1 - 4 - 2 - 8 - 5 - 7 - 1.

Through these two main laws integrated with the knowledge system of which the enneagram is part, called Fourth Way, it is possible to read the main manifestations of the universe.

Changing something …  means carrying out work for our development, that is to aspire to greater freedom.
