THEORY of the 100 MONKEYS

Lyall Watson - LIFETIDE.jpg

I do not know which part of the story on the theory of Lyall Watson (botanist, zoologist, biologist, anthropologist, ethologist, born in  South Africa 12.04.1939 - 25.06.2008), reported below, is real and which is the result of "romantic" reconstructions ...

... in wikipedia it is reported as Watson himself would have stated that in reality it was a "pseudoscientific myth" ...

... but it is important to grasp the significance from a statistical - behavioral point of view of the theory expressed by L. Watson himself:

the individual tends to adapt to a majority ...

... even if he doesn't share a certain behavior.

Many do not think deeply about the choices made ...

... on the other hand, there are those who reflect on behaving in a certain way and, while not sharing it, put it into practice because they believe it is the price to pay to avoid social isolation...

Therefore the human being is often faced with a choice:

  • on the one hand there is the apparent security offered by a group whose behavior is not in line with their personal beliefs

  • on the other hand there are one's personal beliefs.

This leads the human being to have inner conflicts that ...

  • ... often fails to identify (you are in a state of confusion but do not understand the causes) ...

  • ... that is, you understand that you are in a state of conflict but you don't understand why ...

  • ... that is, the reason for the inner conflict is understood but it is not possible to identify suitable tools to remedy it ... and it is believed that there are no solutions ...

In reality, there are solutions but they are not the conventional ones ...

... which being ineffective ...

... and alternative solutions are not accepted, some of which are the result of new intuitions, others often "as old as the world" ...

... unknown today ...

... or (even worse)  boycott ...

... or accepted by a small number of people ... so as not to lead to their use ...

The worst aspect of this is that…

... to induce human beings to behave in a certain way,

suitable methodologies are used

not to perceive what the ultimate goal could be ...

... exploiting the weaknesses of the human being ...

In fact, the lack of activation of the person's resources is effectively exploited ...

.... traumatized and stressed ...

... which is affected by unconscious family situations ...

... which has a certain mindset ...

... further putting it in the condition of not activating the natural ability that the nervous system possesses to gradually restore its internal balance ...

These methodologies act on the need that the individual has to discharge the enormous stress accumulated during the events that  generate a traumatic experience.

Therefore ...

... there are individuals who start behaving in the subtly induced way without any reflection ...

... and the imitation starts as soon as an adequate number of individuals is reached ...

... which transforms the given behavior into "fashion", triggering social isolation for those who do not comply ...

Starting from these considerations, we come to share the

THEORY OF THE 100 MONKEYS

by Lyall Watson (source wikipedia.it):

"The hundredth monkey phenomenon is a supposed phenomenon paranormal in the social sphere that the English writer Lyall Watson said to have observed for the first time in 1979 (other sources report since 1952) in the Japanese island of

Koshima.

It concerned the behavior of a group of macaques who had spontaneously learned to wash potatoes to remove sand and other encrustations before eating them.

The first monkeys painstakingly learned the technique from the first macaques that had begun to wash the potatoes.

This phenomenon is well known and studied by primatologists.

However, Watson stated that suddenly, after ninety-nine macaques had had to learn the technique in the usual way, a hundredth monkey had also learned to wash potatoes:

the existence of this "critical mass" of trained monkeys had opened an unspecified door of a paranormal nature, and from that moment a large number of monkeys, not only on the same island but also on other very distant islands, had begun to wash potatoes before eating them, without having had direct contact with the original group.

The lesson of the hundredth monkey would have been clear:

if a sufficient number of people, or a "critical mass", experience the same experience, at some point the same transpersonal phenomenon that occurred among the Japanese monkeys will occur, and all of humanity will experience an instantaneous transformation."
